FC NOVA U16G - SuperNova Elite USYS President's Cup Regional Champs!

The FC Nova - U16G SuperNova Elite were crowned Regional Champions on Sunday June 19, West Jordan, Utah. The team rolled through the group stage, after a 0-0 tie with Colorado, with the following results:

FC NOVA 0 - 0 Colorado Storm (CO)
FC NOVA 5 - 1 Strikers JS (UT)
FC NOVA 4 - 0 CDO Edge (AZ)

Winning Group A undefeated.

The quarterfinals started a bit slow, but FC NOVA hammered a laser from 21 yds out just before half vs Nevada Elite FC rolling to a dominating win with the final result FC NOVA 5 - 0 Nevada Elite FC.

In the semi final pitted two Northwest teams in FC NOVA and Highline Premier FC Eagles out of Washington. After an Andi Hill header to go up 1-0, Highline were awarded a goal by the referee to tie it up 1-1. After much controversy the referee insisted a goal to tie up the game. Alyssa Graham scored the game winner just before half with a crafty chip far post over the goalkeeper to go into the half 2-1. Hannah Hyde score the 3rd goal in the second half with some great combination play and movement by the entire team to secure FC NOVA in the final. Semi Final score FC NOVA 3 - 1 Washington.

The final pitted Group A winners FC NOVA (ID), vs. Group A 2nd place, Colorado Storm (CO) who they tied on opening day. Baylee Blaser took the lead and scored from 25 out dribbling across the goal. Firing a laser that hit the wet surface and fooled the keeper to put NOVA up 1-0. 15 minutes later, off some superb forward combination play via Hannah Frakes and Andi Hill, Summer Jackson scored off a drop pass across her body and into the far side netting to put NOVA up 2-0. Just before half time Colorado took advantage of a Nova mistake, shot as the NOVA keeper dropped to save, keeping the ball out of the net on the initial save to only see a Colorado forward unchallenged for the put away to go into halftime 2-1 up. The second half turned into an emotional battle through out with NOVA not finding much rhythm to their game. Still with a number of chances squandered for NOVA, Alyssa Graham broke down the Storm backline and was fouled in the box. Graham converted the PK and NOVA roll to Idaho's first girls team to win a US Youth sanctioned regional championship. FC NOVA 3 - 1 Colorado Storm.

The U16G SuperNova Elite team is now on their way to Des Moines, Iowa - July 7-10, 2011 to contend for a National Title.
